You Keep Them How?

While no one wants to see rabbits abused or neglected, it’s important that animal control and welfare agencies and their officers have a uniform standard of care to refer to when investigating alleged abuse or neglect of rabbits in any type of situation.

The RIC is working to alleviate this lack of standardized knowledge by offering to educate any agency in the intricacies of rabbit care of all kinds. Indoors or out, as pets or as breeding stock, rabbits are worth the time and effort to learn about.

We know there is huge pressure upon shelters and rescues which deal with rabbits; a sound and reputable standard of care will help minimize unnecessary animal seizures and surrenders, which will lessen that load.

This standard of care will also help shelters and rescues learn about dealing with large numbers of intact rabbits, and ways by which labor can be reduced without compromising the animals’ welfare. Hopefully, they’ll never need it, but the Rabbit Industry Council wants to make sure it’s there, just in case.
